The Schaff Trend Cycle (STC) is a technical indicator used to identify market trends and potential reversals. It was developed by Doug Schaff in the 1990s and is designed to improve traditional moving averages and momentum indicators. The STC is calculated by combining the MACD and stochastic oscillator to a double-smoothed price EMA. This results in a faster and more sensitive indicator less prone to whipsaws and false signals than traditional indicators. The indicator value oscillates between 0 and 100 and can be used to identify overbought and oversold conditions, trend direction, and potential trend reversals. When the STC is above 50, it indicates a bullish trend; when it's below 50, it shows a bearish trend. A cross of the STC and its signal line can also signal a change in trend direction. |
