Martin Pring first published the KST (Know Sure Thing) indicator in the Stocks & Commodities magazine in 1992. The indicator formula utilizes four different time frames to show overall momentum and not just momentum over one specific timeframe. Like the momentum oscillator, KST generates trading signals when the indicator line crosses the signal line. The trading signal will be stronger if the crossover is in the oversold/overbought zone or if there is a divergence between the indicator and price. If the KST stays above zero during an uptrend, it confirms the trend. The inverse is valid for a downtrend. The KST indicator has nine parameters. The first four numbers represent periods for Rate Of Change (ROC) indicators, the second four are moving averages' periods for the corresponding ROC indicators, and the last number is the smoothing period for the signal line. |
