Overextended Stocks

Prices that run far above their moving averages tend to snap back toward them. Swing traders take profits or look for short entries in such stretched moves, while trend followers wait for the pullback before buying. This list shows NYSE and Nasdaq stocks trading more than 30% above their 50-day moving average with RSI(14) above 80, most extended first, with the distance from the 50-day average shown in percent. Penny stocks and illiquid names are excluded.

Screening formula:
exch(nyse,nasdaq) and type(stock) and price > 1 and advol(21) > 1 and price > 1.3 * sma(50) and rsi(14) > 80 and sortby(100 * (price / sma(50) - 1), desc) and show(100 * (price / sma(50) - 1) as above_50d_ma_pct, rsi(14) as rsi)
