Dry-Up in Base

Asia

Mark Minervini looks for volume to dry up in the last contraction of a base: very low volume near the high shows that few holders are left to sell, so the stock can move with little supply in the way. This is also where he takes low-cheat entries. This screen lists stocks on Asian exchanges that pass the Trend Template (price above a rising 200-day average, 50 > 150 > 200-day averages, at least 25% above the 52-week low, within 25% of the 52-week high and RS 70 or better), trade within 10% of their 20-day high, the pivot, and traded less than half of their 50-day average volume on the last bar, quietest first. Prices are in each exchange's local currency, and the list covers stocks traded in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul and Jakarta with at least about US$0.7 million in average daily trading value.

Screening formula:
exch(tse,hkse,ses,krx,ise) and (type(stock) and ((exch(tse) and advol(21) > 100) or (exch(hkse) and advol(21) > 5) or (exch(ses) and advol(21) > 1) or (exch(krx) and advol(21) > 1000) or (exch(ise) and advol(21) > 10000))) and price > sma(50) and sma(50) > sma(150) and sma(150) > sma(200) and sma(200) > sma(200)@21 and price >= 1.25 * w52low and price >= 0.75 * w52high and rs(252) >= 70 and off_high(20) < 10 and cvol < 0.5 * avol(50) and sortby(cvol / avol(50), asc) and show(cvol / avol(50) as volume_vs_50d_avg, off_high(20) as below_pivot_pct)
