This fund puts the vast majority of its money into higher-risk bonds that carry lower credit ratings, along with similar types of investments. It may also purchase debt from companies that are struggling financially, including those going through bankruptcy or that have already missed payments to their lenders. The fund's managers use their own judgment to assess bonds that have not been formally rated.
