An Upthrust is a bar that pushes above a recent high but fails to hold there and closes back below it. The pattern, used by Toby Crabel and in Wyckoff analysis, shows that buyers who chased the breakout were met by supply, so it often marks a false breakout and a short-term top, especially at the upper edge of a trading range.
