The Bull Hook is a Toby Crabel pattern on a narrow-range bar: the price opens above the previous high and then reverses to close below the previous close. The failed opening gap shakes out early buyers, and Crabel found that after this setup the market often reverses again and moves higher, so traders place a buy stop above the high of the hook bar.
