A Bearish Island Reversal forms at the end of an advance: the price gaps up, trades for one or more bars above the gap, and then gaps down, leaving the highest bars isolated like an island with gaps on both sides. Everyone who bought into the first gap is suddenly trapped at a loss, so the pattern often marks a sharp top and the start of a move lower.
