A formula stock screener finds stocks with a formula you write yourself: a logical expression that combines technical indicators, price, volume and fundamentals. The screener checks the formula for every stock and returns the stocks for which it is true.
How do I write a stock screening formula?
Join conditions with and, or and not, and compare values with operators such as greater than or less than. For example, exch(nasdaq) and rsi(14) ca 30 finds Nasdaq stocks whose 14-period RSI has just crossed above 30. The Formula Expression Helper builds a condition from lists and inserts it into the formula, and View Examples shows ready-made formulas.
Which indicators and functions can I use?
More than 100 technical indicators, from moving averages, RSI and MACD to Ichimoku and SuperTrend, events such as crossovers, divergences and new highs, candlestick and chart patterns, and fundamentals such as P/E, earnings growth and dividends. The Indicator / Function List on this page lists them all.
Can I combine several time frames in one formula?
Yes. Add the @ operator to a condition to evaluate it on another time frame: rsi(14)@weeks is the weekly RSI, and @months, @h4 or @m5 switch to monthly, 4-hour or 5-minute bars where intraday data is available. A number shifts a value back in time, so sma(200)@5 is the 200-day SMA five bars ago.
How do I limit the screen to certain exchanges, indexes or my watch list?
Use exch(nyse, nasdaq) to pick any of more than 40 exchanges, index(sp500) for index members, and put the name of a watch list or portfolio in square brackets, such as [my ideas]. To rank the results, add sortby, for example sortby(rsi(14), desc, 10) for the 10 stocks with the highest RSI.
Can AI write the formula for me?
Yes. Describe your idea in plain English in the AI Screener, and it writes the formula for you. You can then fine-tune the formula and save it in the Formula Screener. You can also convert a screen built in the Stock Screener to a formula.
Can I save the screen, get alerts and backtest it?
Yes. Save the formula to My Stock Screens, get an e-mail, SMS or Telegram alert when new stocks match it, have the results e-mailed to you on a schedule, or backtest the formula as a trading strategy.
