Business Description

Smithfield Foods is one of the world's largest pork producers, operating across the full supply chain from raising hogs on company-owned and contract farms to processing and selling fresh pork, bacon, sausages, hot dogs, deli meats, and other packaged products to retail, foodservice, and industrial customers in the US and abroad. The company sells under a wide range of well-known brand names as well as private labels, and exports fresh pork to markets including China, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, and Canada. Beyond food, Smithfield also uses hog-derived raw materials to produce heparin, a pharmaceutical ingredient used to reduce the risk of blood clots. Founded in 1936 and based in Smithfield, Virginia, the company operates as a subsidiary of SFDS UK Holdings Limited.
