MarketInOut vs Finviz: Which Stock Screener Should You Use?

By MarketInOut · October 17, 2026

Finviz is one of the best-known stock screeners, and for good reason: it's fast, clean and free for basic use. But it was built for US stocks. If you trade outside the US, want to describe a screen in plain English, or need to write your own screening formulas, MarketInOut may be a better fit.

Here's an honest side-by-side.

Where Finviz is better

  • Speed and simplicity for US stocks. The filter menu and heat maps make a quick scan of the US market easy.
  • News and insider data. Finviz shows news, analyst ratings and insider trades next to each ticker.
  • Free tier. Many US traders never need to pay.

Where MarketInOut is better

1. Markets outside the US

If you trade the TSX, LSE, Xetra, BSE, Hong Kong or Tokyo, Finviz can't help. MarketInOut runs the same screens across 40+ exchanges, so the Minervini Trend Template works on Indian or Canadian stocks exactly as it does on US ones.

2. Describe a screen in plain English

Type something like “stocks above the 200-day average with RSI below 30 and rising volume” and the AI screener turns it into a working screen. You can then see and edit the formula it wrote.

3. Formulas instead of fixed filters

Finviz offers a fixed menu of filters. MarketInOut's formula screener lets you write your own conditions, for example:

close < close[50] and rsi(14) > rsi(14)@50

That finds bullish RSI divergence: price lower than 50 days ago while RSI is higher. (It's also a ready-made screen.) You can combine timeframes, compare to an index and rank results with your own scoring.

4. Test before you trade

Backtest any saved screen on 25+ years of data, or run it on a past date to see which stocks it would have found.

5. Forex and crypto in the same tool

Screen 1,000+ cryptocurrencies or forex pairs with the same indicators you use on stocks, for example the Trend Template for crypto.

6. No subscription

Pro is a one-time payment for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years. It doesn't renew automatically, so you're never billed by surprise, and your saved screens are kept if you let it lapse.

Which one should you choose?

  • Choose Finviz if you only trade US stocks and want a quick visual scan with news.
  • Choose MarketInOut if you trade outside the US, want to build or describe your own screens, or want to backtest your ideas.

Many traders use both: Finviz for a quick look at the US market, MarketInOut for building and testing screens across markets.
